Printed for J. Dodsley, in Pall-Mall, 1777. 1st Ed. iv,112,*113-192*,113-270,[2];259,[9]p. Light browning, ex.-libris Sir George Henry Scott Douglas, contemporary calf, minor wear and marking, spine cracked and with loss to head and tail.
¶ With an account of the Declaration being read to the Continental Army; the charter of the first government of the United States, the Articles of Confederation; an extended description of the events of the war, including the first victory of the war for George Washington, the evacuation of the British Army from Boston after the surprise erection of wooden works on Dorchester Heights on March 5, 1776. etc. According to some the first British printing in book form of the US Declaration of Independence, however the Special Collections and University Archives at the UO Library holds an 1776 edition of the Gentleman’s Magazine also cited as the first British printing of the Declaration of Independence (issued in August 1776), enclosed in a complete copy of the 1776 volume. The Annual Register was an annual publication whereas the Gentleman’s Magazine was of course a monthly publication. Sabin 1614; ESTC T212983. ‘With four final contents leaves.
